"Charming Chameleon" - Natalie Portman's big-screen blockbusters style appeal. Celebrity Style Guru, Colleen Abrie, tells us "Upswept, cropped or bald, Natalie Portman's 'knockout beauty' shines through."
Natalie Portman - With so many looks, is Portman the cutest chameleon of our time? We asked celebrity style guru Colleen Abrie, who has more than 20 years experience as a colorist, hair stylist and makeup artist. Regarding Portman's hair today, what does it say about her tomorrow?
"The look created for her Golden Globes appearances in 2005 was set in spiral locks, which were meant to hang chunky and not to be combed out," Abrie says. "Set off by her 1920s-inspired gown with a dropped waist, it was a lovely combination, sort of a la 'Pretty Baby.'"
"By looks alone, you would think this innocent ingenue is everything fluffy," Abrie says. "In reality, Natalie backs up her gamine beauty with a disciplined international background; she's Israeli born, a degree from Harvard in psychology and plans for life beyond acting."
Abrie notes that her red carpet looks reflect the freshness of youth. "Anyone willing to shave their head bald for a movie role, and then pose for the press with no qualms, has my vote for not only stellar confidence, but genetic perfection," Abrie says. "Her cranial head shape is flawless, and the only other woman who could look this good is commonly known as Queen Nefertiti."
Upswept, spiral curled, cropped or rebel shaved, this young lady is a "knockout beauty," Abrie says. "And the best part is, she shows us this isn't her true value as a woman but only her vehicle for worldly experience and achievement of her goals."
"Prior to shaving her head for her role in 'V for Vendetta,' she has repeatedly dressed her hair upward and off of her face in a pretty, retro-femme look using an embellished headband as her jewelry focal piece," Abrie says. "This style tells us she is definitely a good-girl and propriety is a virtue."
Portman's most recent appearance on the red carpet was at the 2006 Golden Globes, showing her cropped pixie hair as the grow-out result from the shaved look. "Can she look anymore like an Audrey Hepburn with golden brown hair in her vintage lace Chanel dress?" Abrie asks. "Brava!"
